The expansion of architecture has been a great burden for physical and mental urban environment, that urges us to reduce the burden and release urban space by disappearance of architecture in material and social understanding of architecture .

During the development, great demolition, urban renewal and endless occupation of urban space afterwards have become a special kind of disapperance of architecture in this era.This phenomena "Demolition Era" caused by social issue during the renewal of cities in China, especially in Beijing old city is worth commemorating. The demolition of large number of buildings is a great loss for pubilic space and culture.

"Disappeared House In The Rain" is a silent memorial and irony in this situation. New facility is based on the former house of Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin who made great efforts to protecting the old city of Beijing. This building was demolished in 2012.We add a disappeared building respecting the fact of the disappearance of the former one.

The disappearance of architecture is based on both visual and understanding of architecure.People have the inherent unferstanding of architecture, when they get rid of it, architecture becomes a kind of phenomena like rain,forest and light, the disappearance in environment happens. Also this space will be more poetry and positive for public use.

We settle the functional space underground as the memorial for Liang Sicheng and Lin Huiyin and we also provide more public facilies and space for citizens. The new transparent roof as s shelter based on the shape of former builiding creates a new open public space.And this roof is built with light steel structure and membrane covering. We use recycling water to create a rainy space with equipments in the roof for memorial and define space with water screen. The "rain space" is a translation of architecture to a natural phenomena. The space becomes a scene of rain and the material becomes water, wind and light. Architecture disappears in visual and understanding, and becomes a disappeared, traversable, soft and symbolism experience of architecture which is the memorial for "Demolation Era".
