The Old Summer Palace is suffering a destroy from an unprecedented urban development, thus the renovation of The Old Summer Palace is extremely urgent. While reconstruction is rejected by public , The broad massed support that reconstruction is not only a waste of funds, but also destroyed the historical authenticity. However the problem is that the Site itself is in ruins, and ruins are difficult to define the boundaries of The Old Summer Palace and scope of protection. Thus if not rebuilding, renovation will lost its fundamental meaning.

This design under the premise of protecting historic sites as far as possible, taking the issues of the renovations to The Old Summer Palace as a starting point and using modern scientific and technological method to let people see and feel fascination of the old "garden of the Garden". The core of this design is by using natural daylight and night these two interfaces, and a series of "enclosed and inserted thin film" to solve the divergence of the rebuild The Old Summer Palace. When nightfall, the holographic projection technology allow people using "thin film" to see the old scenery, and even allow people to feel the old experience of visiting the Old Summer Palace, by doing this to achieve the target of reconstruction. As the "Film’s" thin mass and transparency, during the day ,the extend part can adaptively "disappeared" to reflect the true history, also make the holographic projection of the "film" which have used in the night to become to a maintenance structure to limit and protect the sites.
