The building is located in Xiapu County, Ningde City, Fujian Province. Xiapu, the oldest county in the east of Fujian, is famous for its typical, continuous intertidal zone and aquaculture.
Intertidal zone, which connects land and sea, is not only the paradise of snails, but also of the fishman's aquaculture. Lots of bamboo poles and rope with kelp look like style S, stretching into the sky. At low tide, the fishmen in boats dig the snails and some other things, which remains long marks on the beach. At high tide, they harvest when small boats are busy to and fro in the forest of poles. At full tide, there are only the tops of poles dotting on the surface of the sea. And then the boats with their harvest come back. The nature, artificial structures, aquaculture and working people are like a perfect picture.
The beauty of Xiapu shocks us.But its beauty can only be seen at a distance except the local people. The project melting the atmosphere, appears less important and creates a path to intertidal zone. Entering the forest of poles, you can enjoy different spaces. At the same time, there are comfortable places for fishmen working and communicating.
The shape of the project is strip, just like the poles winding the intertidal zone.Tourists may get lost in the scence. The project, low and high, long and short, front and back, is provided with a visable communicate space. When fishmen are working or resting in it, tourists also can watch, talk and trade with them.
Most of part of the building are no walls. As the tide is changing, the usable area is becoming different. At full tide, only shining roofs appear on the sea, on-again off-again. When the tide is falling, there are more parts of the building on the surface. Different heights of platforms can develop its function with the change of the tide. Since the time of the tide is not the same, the building changes its aspect every day.
