Architecture must disappear, while people’s function needs, carried within architecture, is growing day by day. With society and city developing, the radicals rejection of modern architecture’s expanding fails to rival the necessity of extra building space. We tries to explore a way to solve the contradiction, a way of architecture to disappear the outer form while fulfill the inner function, providing an efficient and enjoyable site with natural landscape for people all around.

The contradiction is severest in old Beijing city, travel retail booming with popularity, open space lack with population growing, traditional architectural complex invading with high elevation……

The chosen site is located at Nanluoguxiang in old Beijing city aimed at solving the contradiction. Here subway Line 8 is under construction, bringing stereoscopic space to us, with which we can disappear the building form into the ground or beside. Subway is the distribution center of people, so we try to integrate daily functions, such as retail, restaurant and entertainment, to meet people’s need for function, to put plenty of open space with green to provide an enjoyable site. Hope our subway oasis could break the ice of old city developing and drive to a new spring.
