:
”It offers a compelling translation of the idea of modular urban co-living. The crucial ideas of customization and community building are addressed via an innovative online interface. The modules are varied and woven into an intricate urban fabric whose emphasis is on the way that section affords porosity across levels.”

Comments from the Jury Chairman: Patrik Schumacher

Project Name: Eutrobia

Designers: Ma Jieqian, Chen Fangbing, Chu Jianfei, Yang Nan

Colleges: Southwest Jiaotong University,Architectural Association and Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University

Concept of the First Prize Design:

If one day, the residents of the Eutrobia can't put up with their jobs, families, houses, streets, debts. Then people decided to move to the new and empty city nearby .Everyone start new career, marry a new wife. They open the windows and see the new scene. They do pastime talk about gossip with new friends. Their lives are constantly updated in the relocation. Because their society is orderly, people's wealth and statuses are not much different. Diversified life guarantees people's colorful. Mercury, the city's most powerful god of impermanence, created this vague wonder.

------- Excerpt from Invisible City (1978) by Italo Calvino

About Order

In the 16th century, the British philosopher Hobbes explained the origin of social order with the theory of social contract: independent individuals signed contracts with each other to form social order to get rid of the chaotic state of "self-war".Social order is spontaneous, formed from the bottom up.

Funds decide Residence

Nowadays in China, real estate is an important means of living demand and investment. In Shenzhen, China, for example, rent increases by 30% in a year. The high housing price makes the young people can not choose the real environment they really want to live, but depend more on economic ability or political policies, etc. Many metropolises are also difficult to live in, that make young entrepreneurs with dreams daunting.

Who's my Neighbor

Not being able to choose the living environment means not being able to choose the ideal cultural environment.People can not shares the same interests with like-minded neighbors.People of all classes, professions, and habits were forced to mix up.The order was broken. This is not communion, but isolation.

Cultural identity & Communication

In the community, people need to create collectivity and cultural identity for communication. If, people magnify personal preference and move freely to choose the ideal neighborhood.Social activities relate to space. Then, the sense of identity will be reflected in the space -- produce place of intercourse.

Restore the Order

The organization and culture pursued in housing design is the deduction of social order and rules. However, modern and young society operates at a high speed, which impacts the emergence of order germination. We must remake the social order in a matched efficient manner:

·In our proposal,first of all, it should weaken the Capital attribute of housing and emphasize the essence of residence;

·Also, homes will be designed to be a usual and readily available commodity.Reduce the cost of living, moving and refitting. Focus more on creating user-defined Spaces.

The embodiment of social order depends on the establishment of living mode order. Therefore, we extract the logic of social order, make rules, and try to unify architecture and social activities. Hopefully, eventually, the custom community module will be a reflection of the self-organizing social relationships, or a more earnest state of life for young creators.
